ASCENSION
May 20, 2012
Before his ascension, Christ gave the Apostles their mission: “Go into the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation”. All of us are called to the same mission. Sharing the gift of faith is central to the Christian life - it is a type of good stewardship called ‘evangelization’. “Faith is strengthened when it is given to others”, Pope “John Paul II. We have been given new life in Christ. Is that not something you want to share with others?

The Mass: Step by Step - Preparation of the Gifts
The Universal Prayer concludes the Liturgy of the Word and the focus of the Mass now shifts to the Liturgy of the Eucharist and its two high points: the Eucharistic Prayer and the distribution of Holy Communion. The set of rites that precedes the Eucharistic Prayer is called the Preparation of the Gifts. The altar is prepared, the gifts are brought forward and God is praised for them. We will consider each rite of the Preparation of the Gifts in the coming weeks.

ASCENSIONE 20 maggio 2012

Parish Centennial Cook Book!
You are invited to submit your favourite recipe(s) for our upcoming St. Dominic’s Centennial Cook Book. Maybe you could go through your recipes and give us a copy with your name and phone in case we have a question. To date we have 310 recipes.
PARISH PHOTO ALBUM
The free sitting period for our parish album is over, but you can still be in our book and also purchase your photos for the family. ( You would need to call Primary Foto Source and arrange a sitting with John Nistico 345-7041.)
You may also submit a clear photograph of you or your family which you already may have from previous times.
These photos would go on the “submitted” pages of our album. There may be a nominal cost involved, to cover the printing photos you already have in the book. You can also submit photos of loved ones wh have died. We would scan these photos, return the originals to you and print them in the book, for a nominal cost. We haven’t arrived
at the exact cost at the moment.
Also, people may want to submit their names etc., on pages “in memoriam” or as patron, or one of the sponsors
of our book. Donations would vary from $10, $25, $50. and names submitted would go on pages specified. The idea is two fold- to acknowledge those who may have passed on, and to make our book complete by remembering those who cherished and worked for our parish over the years. Call Fr.Dan or Fr. Victor if you need some help with this.
First Communion photos will be posted in Narthex as they become available for your ordering. Also Confirmation photos are already there for your viewing and/or ordering
from the photographers.

6th SUNDAY of EASTER
May 13, 2012
Christ calls us to love one another as he loves us. Being a good steward is a part of loving one another. Christ loved us so much that he sacrificed everything for us. Likewise, stewardship involves some form of sacrifice on our part. Authentic generosity has two prerequisites: first, the gift must be given joyfully out of love; second, there must be some sacrifice involved. A gift is a sacrifice when it is freely given and not just something that we have ‘leftover’. Stewardship means giving what is ‘right’, not what is ‘left’.
Happy Mother’s Day - Blessed is the Mother who lets the Lord be her guiding hand. Whose faith brings her family courage, Whose wisdom comes from God, And whose children stand and honour her.

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Universal Prayer
We have come to know this part of the Mass as the Prayers of the Faithful, for by it the baptized offer prayers and intercessions for the Church, the salvation of the world, all in need and for the local community. This practice of praying for specific groups is recommended in the First Letter to Timothy. The revised instruction on the Mass insists that the petitions be offered by a deacon. This underscores the ministry of the deacon, as he is primarily responsible for charity in the community therefore the one who would be most aware of local needs.

For us to be fruitful disciples, it is essential that we live a stewardship lifestyle. Because we are joined to Christ in the Eucharist, we are called to use and share our gifts in a manner that truly demonstrates that we are indeed in relationship with Christ. Consider how your day to day actions and conversations glorify God and thereby demonstrate that you are indeed a fruitful disciple.

The Mass: Step by Step - Apostles’ Creed
"descended into hell" The phrase that Jesus "descended into hell" in the Apostles Creed has caused much concern for some people. "Hell" in popular culture is the place of devils and eternal damnation for all who reject God. However in the Bible, it refers to the place where the souls of all the dead went before the Resurrection of Jesus. In the Bible, the Hebrew name for this place is Sheol and in Greek it is called Hades, which in English is literally translated as Hell. This phrase describes the work that Christ was doing while his body lay in the tomb. Prior to the Resurrection, no one was able to go to heaven due to original sin. In order to save those who died before him, Jesus although without sin, took on sin and willingly experienced its effects which is death. Thus he went to the place of the dead (or to Sheol or Hades or Hell) to retrieve the souls of all the just to take them to heaven. By dying, Jesus brought salvation to all those who died before his Resurrection; and by rising from the dead, they ascended into heaven with him. There are numerous Biblical references to this mystery of the Faith: the main ones are Psalm 68; Acts 2.31; Romans 10.7; Ephesians 4.8-10; 1 Peter 3.18-19; Hebrews 2.14-15; Matthew 12.40; and Revelation 1.17-18 among many others.
V DOM.

“I know my sheep and they know me”. To know our shepherd is to know scripture. “How can we truly know Christ so as to be able to follow him and live with him? First and foremost, Christ makes his person, his life and his teaching known to us through the Word of God.” We are all given the same 24 hours in each day. No one has any advantage when it comet to time. How do we make the best use of this most precious gift? Stewardship of our time is a challenge in today’s busy world. Never the less, we can all afford to devote a little time to God’s Word each day.
Baptism: Declan Cooper Louie McCoy, Haley Marie Shaughnessy and Peyton Ella Bisignano were baptized in the Lord. Congratulations to their families.

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Nicene Creed "Consubstantial"
In the Nicene Creed we now say that Jesus is "consubstantial" instead of "one in Being" with the Father. It is the literal translation of the Greek word homoousios which is used in the Creed (or in Latin consubstantialis). Consubstantial means "having the same substance" and is only used by the Church to describe Jesus relationship to the Father. The question of how Jesus relates to the Father has great importance. Heresies have divided Christians over this issue and the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD coined this word to precisely articulate the nature of this relationship. By it, the Church expresses that the divinity of Jesus is the same divinity of the Father. "Consubstantial" is an important word; it was fought over by theologians and bishops for centuries as they sought the best word to clarify this great truth about Jesus. It deserves our respect and attention.

IV DOM.

III SUNDAY of EASTER
April 22, 2012
In today’s Gospel Jesus commissions His Disciples to take the good news to all nations. “The laity likewise share in the priestly, prophetic, and royal office of Christ and have their own share in the mission” (Vatican II Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity). By our baptism and confirmation we too are commissioned by Christ himself. We are called to be good stewards of what we profess to believe by sharing it with others. We do this simply and most effectively by the example of our lives.
God Grant Them Eternal Rest
Please remember in your prayers Theresa Wywrot who died recently.
You Were Asking About: "The Nail in the Pail"?
At the Good Friday Service some were asking what happened to the "Nail in the Pail." This was a recent practice in our parish which was very meaningful, (one parishioner saved his nail and had it buried with him when he died) but this act is not part of the Good Friday Liturgy “per se” and therefore was left out his year. The reason for this is because the act of venerating the Cross is meant to be an act of worship to God who willingly died on the Cross for us. This veneration is shown by genuflecting, touching or kissing the Cross. The "Nail in the Pail" (ie. Picking up a large nail, kissing the cross, and dropping it into the pail with a “clank”), sort of converted this act of veneration into an act of penance. Instead of focussing on God's act of love for us, the focus was turned onto ourselves and upon our sinfulness that caused Jesus to die for us.
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who assisted at our Holy Week Celebrations! Every year, countless dedicated parishioners team up to make our Holy Week Liturgies faith-filled and prayerful experiences of God's love for us. Thank you to all servers, lectors, commentators, music ministers, hospitality ministers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, environment and decoration team and parish staff. May God bless you all for your generous sharing of gifts and talents.
Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Profession of Faith
Or Creed, appears in two forms in the revised Mass; the Nicene Creed and the Apostles Creed and is recited at every Sunday Mass. The Apostles Creed is normally recited during Lent and Easter as it is the creed used at Baptism which is usually celebrated during Easter. The Nicene Creed is generally used throughout the remainder of the year. The Creed has been recited during the Mass since the year 589 AD. Through it, week by week, generation after generation, the faith of the Church is handed on and unites Catholics as one in the one Faith that we all share.

III DOM.

II SUNDAY of EASTER
April 15, 2012
Today’s reading from Acts is a classic stewardship reading. None of the Apostles claimed that their possessions were their own. The truth is we don’t own anything, it all belongs to God. Good stewards share everything they have. Sharing is a response of both the head and the heart. In believing that everything we possess is a gift from God, we make a conscious decision to share it. Thus, our grateful hearts lead us to joyful generosity, not out of obligation or duty, but out of gratitude to God and love for one another.

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Homily
The homily usually springs from the Scriptures of the day or of the liturgical texts used for Mass, to encourage and challenge the people to live the Christian life. The homily has its origins in the story of Jesus with the disciples of Emmaus, where he explained the Scriptures to them before breaking bread. Many of the Church Fathers are remembered for their sermons and how they brought together the practice of the Faith in the daily lives of Christians. Homilies vary in quality from preacher to preacher and Sunday to Sunday; yet the purpose reminds the same: applying the Scriptures to the daily practice of our faith.
II DOMENICA DI PASQUA 15 aprile 2012

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Silence
Following the Gospel, there is a prolonged moment of silent reflection on the readings and the homily. This moment of silence while always part of the Mass, was usually skipped over. Now with the recent changes to the Mass, the Church has been reminded of the importance of this moment of silence. Through singing, proclamation and prayer we give praise and glory to God. In the silence God speaks to us. What image or phrase from the readings or the homily struck you? Will it give direction to your life? Help make a decision?
DOMENICA DI PASQUA 8 aprile 2012

When Jesus Came to Birmingham (England)
When Jesus came to Golgotha, they hanged Him on a tree, They drove great nails through hands and feet, and made a Calvary; They crowned Him with a crown of thorns, red were His wounds and deep, For those were crude and cruel days, and human flesh was cheap.
When Jesus came to Birmingham, they simply passed Him by. They would not hurt a hair of Him, they only let Him die; For men had grown more tender, and they would not give Him pain, They only just passed down the street, and left Him in the rain.
Still Jesus cried, 'Forgive them, for they know not what they do. And still it rained the winter rain that drenched Him through and through;
The crowds went home and left the streets without a soul to see, And Jesus crouched against a wall, and cried for Calvary.
Poem by G. A. Studdert-Kennedy (19th century)
PALM SUNDAY
April 1, 2012
The second reading today speaks of Christ’s humility. We too are called to be humble. Being humble does not mean we think less of ourselves; that serves no purpose. Christian humility simply means that we think of ourselves less. We can do this by putting God and others first. As Christian stewards we acknowledge God as the source of all our talents and abilities, and everything we possess. Setting aside self gives the steward a certain ‘God-grounded’ confidence while still remaining humble

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Gospel Part 3
The proclamation of the Gospel has a preeminent place among all the readings of Scripture. While all the readings form the Word of God, God speaks directly and clearly to his people through the words and actions of Jesus in the Gospel. It is for this reason that we stand during the Gospel, out of respect and veneration for Christ who is made present in our midst. The response "Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ" at the conclusion of the proclamation of the Gospel, affirms our belief in the presence of Christ in the Gospel.
DOMENICA DELLE PALME 1 aprile 2012
Gloria a te, lode in eterno, Cristo re, salvatore: osanna!

Jesus tells us that if we love our life we will lose it. As disciples and stewards we need to die to self so that we may live an abundantly fruitful life. To die to self is to admit utter dependence upon God for all that I have and all that I am. To be steward is not to hoard my life, but to live generously.

The Mass: Step by Step - Gospel Part 2
Immediately before the proclamation of the Gospel, everyone makes the sign of the cross three times over their bodies, once on the forehead, on the lips and over the heart. These signings number three for the Trinity: one God revealed in three Persons. The areas of the body that we sign with the cross are also significant: the forehead, that we may always reflect and meditate on the Gospel; the lips, that we may always proclaim the Word of God in our speech; the heart, that the Gospel may dwell there by faith.

4th SUNDAY OF LENT
March 18, 2012
All that we are able to accomplish and accumulate in our lifetime is only possible because of God. “God has made us what we are...” St. Paul tells us in today’s second reading. God also “created us for a life of good deeds...” and, He has laid the plans for our lives, “...which he has already prepared for us to do.” What gifts have you been given that are to be shared in a life of good deeds and in fulfilling God’s plan? To live the stewardship way of life!

The Mass: Step by Step - Gospel Part 1
Several marks of respect are given the Gospel in order to indicate how important it is within the Church. Since the time of the Apostles, we have believed that when the Gospel is proclaimed, it is Christ himself who speaks to his people. For this reason only an ordained minister proclaims the Gospel. This designation goes back to the 3rd century when Cyprian ordained Aurelian a deacon for this specific purpose. Before proclaiming the Gospel, the deacon asks a blessing that the Lord be "on his lips and in his heart" that by his proclamation the people may come to fall in love with the Scriptures and marvel at the work of Jesus to save us.
IV DOM.

3rd SUNDAY OF LENT
March 11, 2012
The image from today’s Gospel of Christ driving out the money-changers and merchants is one we need to give some thought to. When consumerism and materialism, and not our faith in God, become the centre of our lives it can be a real problem. Good stewards allow their faith to infuse all of their money management decisions. We can find balance amid the rampant consumerism and materialism in our society by sharing first, saving second, and spending third.

The Mass: Step by Step - Gospel Acclamation
This acclamation announces the coming of the Gospel and accompanies the procession to the ambo. Outside of Lent the "Alleluia" is used, which means "Praise God" in Hebrew. The acclamation finds its origins in Jewish worship prior to the proclamation of the Scripture readings from the Torah. Since the first Christians were Jewish, they carried this practice into Christian worship. Since it is a acclamation of great joy, it is omitted during Lent as it is out of character with the penitential nature of the season. It exists to call to mind the importance of the Gospel in which Christ himself speaks to his people.
III DOM. DI QUARESIMA
11 marzo 2012

14th ANNUAL ST. JOSEPH TABLE
March 17th & 18th
A St. Joseph Table is an offering of love, labour, and sacrifice in honour of the Patron Saint of the Italians, Canadians and the Universal Church. People of Italian heritage in North America have worked year after year to perpetuate this unique tradition of our heritage, brought to us by our grandparents and great-grandparents. According to legend, the St. Joseph Altar originated in Sicily, many centuries ago during a period of drought and famine. The people turned to St. Joseph asking his help and intercession. When the rains came and the crops prospered, their prayers were answered. In thanksgiving, the community erected lovely altars, with three levels to represent the Holy Trinity, draped it simply and beautifully in white and adorned it with flowers. They then selected their finest grain, fruits, vegetables, seafood and wine and invited all the poor to share in their prayer and festivity. The custom and devotion continue to this day. Each year altars laden with food are prepared on March 19th to celebrate St. Joseph's Feast Day.
Our St. Joseph Table is on March 17, and 18. Come celebrate with us after all masses. Spaghetti bolognese, salad & bun will be served after the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday and on Sunday after the 10 & 11:30 a.m(Free will offering.) Why not do a little baking for the Table? Everything welcomed!
See you there.

“Listen to Him!” The Christian Steward is always listening to Christ. We must put God first in our daily decisions. Abraham was prepared to withhold nothing, not even his own son. The Mass: Step by Step - Second Reading
The second reading from Scripture is always taken from one of the letters contained in the New Testament. It is a sequential proclamation of the letter and therefore it does not follow the theme of the first reading or the Gospel. The importance of the second reading lies in the fact that it often describes the challenges that the early Christians faced and the development of Christian practice and doctrine. It gives us a guide for right living as many of the challenges then, are challenges that we still face today. In the silence that follows the reading, ask yourself: "What image or phrase stuck with me from the reading, and what is God saying to me through it?".
II DOM.

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Responsorial Psalm
The Psalm is called "responsorial" because of its structure; it is designed to be sung in alternation between the psalmist and the congregation. The Psalm is chosen based upon one of themes of the first or second readings or the Gospel. It is meant to allow the people to meditate on the Word of God and the theme for that day. Since the Psalms are part of Sacred Scripture, it should always be sung from the ambo: the place which is reserved for the proclamation of the Scriptures. The Second Vatican Council restored the use of the term "psalmist" for the title of the person who sings the Psalm. This title was used in the early Church but fell out of use during the 19th century in favour of the title "cantor."
I DOM.

The Mass: Step by Step - First Reading
The Scripture readings are always proclaimed from the ambo. During the readings, the assembly is called upon to sit and listen to the Word being proclaimed. The Scriptures were not meant for just private devotion, but primarily for public proclamation. God speaks to his people in the proclamation of the Word, not in the silent reading along with the lector. The First Reading is always taken from the Old Testament, except during the Easter Season when it is taken from the Acts of the Apostles. The selection of the First Reading is chosen in relation to the Gospel; thus these two readings always share the same theme. In the silence that follows the reading, ask yourself: "What phrase or image stuck with me from the reading, and what is God saying to me through it?”

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Liturgy of the Word
The Liturgy of the Word is the first major part of the Mass. The proclamation of the Scriptures has always been a part of Christian worship. It basis comes from our Jewish roots of the reading of the Torah in the synagogue, as well as Luke’s account of the journey to Emmaus, in which two disciples converse with Jesus though unaware it is him. Along the way, Jesus explains the Scriptures, and then when he breaks the bread they recognize who he is. The Second Vatican Council expanded the readings from Scripture that we hear. Formerly, we heard less than 1% of the Old Testament and 17% from the New Testament. Now we hear 14% of the Old and 71% of the New Testaments and the entire 4 Gospels over a 3 year cycle. A 3 year cycle was chosen as Jesus’ preaching ministry was 3 years in length.
The Hymn Board - Some have been asking what the coloured squares mean after the number on the hymn board. The plain green square refers to Catholic Book of Worship; the green square withe the “G” refers to Gather; and the red square with the “C” refers to Celebrate in Song.

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step -- The Collect
The invitation "Let us pray," leads everyone into a moment of silence, during which they offer the prayers they bring to Mass. What is in your heart as you come to Mass today? In what areas of your life can you use God’s grace or strength? Is there anyone whom you wish to pray for? During this time, the priest usually offers a prayer for the intention of that Mass. Then the priest gathers all these prayers together in one and offers them to God by saying a formal and structured prayer. This silence and prayer are called the Collect; for the priest "collects" the prayers of the people and offers them to God. This is symbolized in the extending of the priest’s hands upwards. The Collect concludes the Introductory Rites.

“Tutti ti cercano!”, dicono Simone e altri discepoli a Gesù, dopo essersi messi sulle sue tracce (Vangelo).

for our upcoming St. Dominic’s Centennial Cook Book
I know some people have said it’s too much work etc., but now with data bases, and home computers, it’s much easier. We can compile and store info as long as we want and publish as we want without any waste at all. Perhaps you have a time honoured recipe in your family that you would like to share with us. Go through your recipes and give us a legible copy together with your name and phone in case we have a question. Put your recipe in the church collection or drop it off at the Rectory. You can even put it thru the Rectory mail slot.
If you’d like to add any information to the recipe please do. (ie. This was grandma’s recipe etc. )

No Scents Program makes good health sense! There are a few parishioners who suffer asthma etc. or are allergic to different scents. We don’t want to willingly trigger an adverse reaction in a parishioner at church. Our Parish participates in the “No Scents” Program as does the hospital and other institutions. Out of respect for others who have sensitivities and allergies to scents, it is kindly requested that parishioners refrain from wearing them to church. Also, when ordering flowers for weddings and funerals etc. please ask your florist to use non-scented flowers if at all possible. Some of those Asiatic lilies pink and white, have such a strong scent that the clergy are becoming “breathless” even during the Mass. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

Here we are...nearly one month already gone in 2012! What did you resolve to change this year? Stewardship calls for a change to the way we think about who we are, and what we possess. What changes might God be calling you to? Stewardship calls us to be emptied of pride, envy, jealousy, anger, selfishness, and greed. Only then can we be filled with humility, charity, faith, hope, patience, peace, joy, surrender and gratitude!

The Mass: Step by Step - The Gloria
The first recorded use of the Gloria dates back to the 3rd century as a hymn for morning prayer. By the 8th century, the Gloria was sung at Masses at which the bishop presided and during the Christmas and Easter seasons. The Gloria probably originated as a Christmas hymn since its first line is taken the angels announcement of the Saviours birth to the shepherds (see Luke 2.14). The Gloria is a hymn of joy and celebration, and therefore is only sung at Masses during the Christmas and Easter seasons and Ordinary Time. By this hymn, the faithful, gathered in the Holy Spirit, praise, bless and beseech God.
IV DOM. TEMPO ORD. 29 genn. 2012

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - Kyrie
The origins of the Kyrie (Lord, have mercy) are unclear, however it was firmly in place as a hymn since the time when Gregory the Great was pope (590 - 604 AD). It was often used as a conclusion to the Psalms and for processions. When Latin became the official language of the Church, the Kyrie was the only prayer that was retained in its original Greek and not translated into Latin. The Kyrie was never intended to be penitential in nature and is not connected to repentance or forgiveness. After repenting of our sin and asking for forgiveness in the Penitential Act, we then join in singing or saying this ancient hymn celebrating Gods mercy and goodness that he has shown to us.
III DOM. TEMPO ORD. 22 genn. 2012

There exists in our parish community a diversity of unique gifts. God has provided these gifts in order to advance His Kingdom. Our sisters and brother in other Christian denominations have also been blessed with unique gifts that are being used for the same purpose. This Wednesday, January 25th the Annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity comes to a close. We pray that all Christians be good stewards of their relationships with one another, seeking to listen to and to understanding each other, being always patient and humble, so that the Body of Christ may be truly united.

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - The Penitential Act
For the first thousand years, there is little evidence of a penitential act during Mass. It was only in 1570 AD, that this act of repentance, as we know it today, was included in the Mass. The Penitential Act finds its basis from the First Letter of John (1.9): "If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." The Penitential Act opens with an introduction by the priest calling upon the entire community to acknowledge their sins before the Lord, which we do in silence. This moment of silence is intended as a weekly examination of our lives. Ask yourself this question: "What is the one major thing that has kept me from God this week?" Then all present join in a general confession of sin, which is usually the Confiteor prayer (I confess to almighty God). The words to the Confiteor have repeated changed since 1570, however its purpose has always reminded the same: to acknowledge our sins and to seek forgiveness from the Lord.

II DOM. DEL TEMPO ORD. 15 genn. 2012
Gesù disse loro: “che cosa cercate!” Risposero: “dove dimori?”

EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
Jan. 8, 2012
TODAY A SPECIAL 100TH ANNIVERSARY BANNER DESIGNED BY ITALO DE ROCCO WILL BE BLESSED AND HUNG IN THE CHURCH. A RECEPTION WILL BE HELD IN THE HALL. EVERYONE IS INVITED! HAPPY 100TH TO ST. DOMINIC’S! A SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY PRAYER WILL BE USED IN CHURCH.
The word epiphany is defined as, ‘a sudden intuitive perception or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something’. In looking at all of life through the prism of stewardship we gain an insight into the reality that everything in life is a gift from God. This is true of everything we have: all worldly possessions; spiritual gifts like faith, hope and love; relationships with our spouse, family and friends; the very world itself. It’s all gift! Another epiphany that stewardship invites us to is the realization that one day God will require an accounting of the use each of us has made of the particular gifts He entrusted to us.

Revised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - The Greeting
Following the Sign of the Cross, the priest greets the people in the name of Christ. All of the greetings are inspired by Scripture: either from the Old Testament (see Judges 6.12; Ruth 2.4; and 2 Chronicles 15.2) or from the introduction of Pauls Letters (see 1 Cor 1.3; 2 Cor 13.14; Romans 1.7, Galatians 1.3; Ephesians 1.2; Philippians 1.2). The peoples response to the greeting is also taken from Scripture. The usage of the word "spirit" in the peoples response, connects the greeting to its biblical roots, its historical usage, and the spiritual nature of the events about to take place. The word "spirit" does not refer to the soul of the priest but to the Spirit he has received through ordination. The greeting signifies that the Church in its fullness is gathered for worship and that Christ is present in our midst.EPIFANIA DI SIGNORE 8 genn 2012

SOLEMNITY OF MARY
Jan. 1, 2012
Jesus is the supreme example and teacher of stewardship. After Jesus, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary who, by her example, most perfectly shows us the meaning of discipleship and stewardship. All of the essential elements are found in her life: she was called and gifted by God; she responded joyfully and generously; she was patient and persistent in her maternal role from the manger to the cross. The question in all of this is what about us? Do we also wish to be disciples and stewards?

"Remembering the past...working in the present..mindful of the future"
( Larry Grace, May 7, 1983 Dedication of St. Dominic’s,Northwood.)
“There is an adage which states ‘in unity there is strength!’ This afternoon we witness to the truth of this saying as we assemble for the dedication and blessing of our church.” “Our new church complex is the realization of a vision and a dream. It symbolizes the commitment of hundreds of people who have contributed in excess of 10,000 volunteer working hours. It is a labour of Love.”

MARIA MADRE DI DIO 1 genn 2012
Ha inizio, oggi, un nuovo anno. Come sarà?

EASTER is not that far away. We are already planning to have a special Easter Candle for our 100th year as a parish. If you are interested in sponsoring the Easter Candle, speak with Fr. VictorRevised Mass Bulletin Series
The Mass: Step by Step - The Veneration of the Altar
A series of gestures shows respect for the altar, which since the 4th century has been the primary symbol of Christ in the church. The ministers bow to it, the priest kisses it & he may also incense it. The kissing of the altar comes from the time when Christianity was still outlawed in the Roman Empire and Mass was celebrated in the catacombs on the tombs of the martyrs. By kissing the tomb, the priest honoured the one who gave his/her life for the Faith. When Christianity became the religion of the Empire in 313 AD, the kissing of the altar continued as a reminder of the high price that was paid so that we could worship God in public and without fear. It is also for this reason that the practice of placing relics of saints inside the main altar continues to this day.
